Opening
Performance / Festival

The city of Basel celebrates the breadth and diversity of Swiss performance art from 1960 to the present through an exceptional institutional collaboration between Museum Tinguely, Kaserne Basel, and Kunsthalle Basel in partnership with Centre culturel suisse in Paris. Kaserne Basel proudly presents artistic works between performance and choreography, where bodies move within a spectrum ranging from exhibited objecthood to organised choreography through time and space. In «Myousic», Dimitri de Perrot and Julian Sartorius investigate the relationship between performance and audience, thereby consciously creating deceptive perceptions. This is followed by Marie-Caroline Hominal’s work «Silver», an intoxicating club performance hovering somewhere between electronic music and excess. Moreover, she invites members of the audience to join her for an intimate performance «The Triumph of Fame» in her backstage dressing room. The fatigued and old «Blue Tired Heroes» by Massimo Furlan stroll through Basel’s inner city as men of experience dressed in Superman costumes. The audience accompanies them on their route of remembrance. The dancer and choreographer Foofwa d’Imobilité performs his «Dancewalk» and offers an artistic perspective to walking along the border between Basel-Stadt and Baselland; he additionally utilises «Condanced Histories» to dance his way through 125 years of dance history. Employing bright pink-fleshy scenery along with wooden tools, ropes and electronic music, Hahn Rowe and Simone Aughterlony go against standard conventions in their performance «Biofiction» and generate a queer awareness contra normative classifications. La Ribot, the diva of the Genevese dance and performance scene, combines the wildness and refinement of her own body in «Distinguished Hits 1991-2000» to scrutinise herself while in constant metamorphosis. The very same evening, guests can take part in an extravagant concert experience featuring OY and Mr. Milano. Partially visible, partially invisible, audible or tangible, the invited artists each come up with new rules for the performative event.
