Each year, the state of Kentucky hosts the world’s largest convention of ventriloquists featuring artists from around the globe. In cooperation with the author Dennis Cooper and the Puppet Theatre Halle, the sought-after artist Gisèle Vienne, who has previously performed her works «This Is How You Will Disappear» and «The Pyre» at Kaserne Basel, has created a fictitious reconstruction of this event. The multi-layered dialogues slowly reveal the psychological complexity of the characters. What is said, what is thought, what comes from the unconscious are expressed aloud by the ventriloquists, their puppets and the ‘third voice’ of the ventriloquists. It develops into a play in which both are suddenly visible – the madness and the normality of these conversations, as well as the shift from seemingly uncomplicated relations to a real psychological maze.
There will be an audience discussion after the show on 4 february.
